Victoria – Coastal Cool

“This was to be a quality, robust home for generations” so say the designers of this home located in Victoria’s costal region. Architects Robson Rak were tasked with a brief from the client that this was to be home that could not only house the family (as well as extended family and guests), but also be a building that responded thoughtfully to the surrounding environment. The result is a sprawling home that utilises a minimal materials scheme to link the house to the natural elements found on the site – sand and timber.

Rammed earth walls, using locally sourced sand, form the walls with soft timbers used for the joinery and in the furniture. This calm material narrative is punctuated by moments of colours such as the green tiles kitchen island – the green mimicking the leaves of the surrounding trees.

This spacious and relaxed residence never made “robust” look so good!
