An update to the swinging 60’s
I’m actually surprised I haven’t posted about Jamie Bush & Co yet. How have we neglected to share such an amazing Hollywood Hills home?! Arriving here can be a quintessentially LA experience: the winding drive up from Sunset Boulevard, the unhurried opening of the driveway gate, the welcoming soft glow of the entry court, a peek into the deluxe interior beyond through the glass on the front door. Upon entering the home, passing the various layers of foyer, then screen panels, and a sunken living room to face the shimmering light grid of LA’s expansive sprawl below. Think Stahl House, updated, mid-century, but retrospective and considered.
Located in the famous Trousdale Estates section of Beverly Hills 90210, this 510 square metre existing home was part of The Doheny Estate until the 1950s. “The owners bought the property with the intention of turning it into an open, airy and contemporary home suited for entertainment and to showcase their evolving collection of modern and contemporary photography”. Clearly a success.
Curved and circular elements are repeated motifs that can be found throughout the original home. To make this home feel contemporary Bush knew it required a design that would be both timeless and elegant, but with a forward-leaning sensibility not afraid to depart from mid-century conventions.
