Untouched since the 70’s

For those who have followed this blog for a while, you might remember that one of my first posts on the Design Addicts Platform was about Diego Revollo and his gifted hand to a 70 square metre apartment.  Now, three years on from that post, he brings us this renovation three times the size! This apartment, untouched since the 1970’s is now owned by a young professional couple is located in Itaim – Bibi in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
These generous clients have allowed for the exploration of quite a few ideas with some happy accidents along the way. Rationalising the circulation and space typologies meant the maids quarters had to go! While mostly breaking down walls and opening spaces to each other the kitchen and informal dining have been given privacy through transparent glass – keeping the function of cooking when entertaining more private. A happy accident of the renovation has been the discovery of the beamed ceiling. Protected for 40 years these add stunning texture and rhythm to the spaces.
A background palette of mostly neutrals tones is given punch through moments of black in the hardware of the lighting and accessories and some colour used through soft finishing and decorative objet. A contemporary apartment with Diego’s typical mix of Brazilian sensibility. I love it!
