Mood and Magic in Seattle
I love it when I come across a project that isn’t presented in a bright, shiny, sunny setting. The images for this project, located in suburban Seattle and completed by mw|works architecture + design are moody, have atmosphere and characterise the type of weather the Pacific North West of America is known for.
The brief for this project centred around client who had previously lived in the country but wanted to be a part of urban life again without losing the calm and tranquil setting they had previously enjoy. As the firm describes, “This new project would distil their way of living into a smaller footprint, specifically tailored to their tastes and activities. Early design discussions focused on a simple modern structure with a quiet palette constructed on a modest budget.”
The end result is a home whose narrative wholly follows the client brief but also characterises the surrounding landscape through material and finish selection. Scorched, stained and weathered timbers set the tone for house, while internally concrete floors, soft white walls and sparingly used furniture create a calm sanctuary.
To me, this house looks like the perfect place to relax, curl up by the fire and ride out of the regions oft-experienced storms.
