The Art of Living

I remember walking around art galleries when I was young (and even still today!) thinking how amazing it would be to live in one – the scale, the space, the art! This house, located north of Tel Aviv, Israel and completed by Israeli firm Studio de Lange, comes close to my residential art gallery dream.

As with many contemporary art spaces, the materials palate is minimal and subdued. As the architect explains “The material and colour palettes were greatly restrained so not to overbear the space; allowing space itself to be an adequate airy platform for the residents and their exquisite art and design collection.” Indeed, the sparseness of this house is what gives the interior the grand, almost institutional, narrative.

If it is the minimalism that sets the tone for the building’s narrative then it is certainly the furniture, sparingly though it is used, that make it a home. Select designs classics, some arguably art pieces in themselves, are used to define the use of each space, but not to over decorate it.

A final word from the architect: “It is the owners’ art and design collection, intertwined with the architecture that creates this home elegant atmosphere.”
