First impressions count
Making a great first impression can be tricky. What do I wear? How do I smell? Am I interesting? So when Mayes Office was approached for this complete renovation a big part of the design resolution was focused towards this and it shows! The entry creates a memorable experience, orientating us towards the rest of the house in a concise way.
This 670 square metre contemporary interpretation of the Beverly Hills style home is situated in the famous Trousdale suburb giving its owners sweeping views from the Pacific Ocean to downtown Los Angeles. I love the way this house references its context such as the Stahl House but is completely contemporary at the same time.
Mayes Office has used a mixture of materials such as timber, copper, limestone and marble punctuated by exposed steel to create a warm, industrial, sophisticated interior. The main entry has been lavished with a solid live edge slab of limestone suspended over a reflecting pool. The front door is a work of art, shaped from semi-precious copper. It certainly makes for a great first impression.
