Jardan Paddington
For nearly 30 years, Jardan has defined Australian style with high quality, hand crafted Australian design, and this month, design comes to Sydney with the launch of the brand’s first NSW flagship store.
Showcasing comprehensive Jardan furniture range as well as a tightly curated lifestyle offering of fine art, linens, homewares and special lighting pieces created by celebrated Australians, Jardan Sydney will be nestled in the Eastern Suburbs’ lifestyle and design hub of Paddington.
One of the city’s most vibrant and architecturally significant suburbs, Jardan Paddington is located at 42 Oxford Street, previously the iconic Arial Bookstore. It’s this history that informed architect, Iva Foschia’s decision to leave much of the building’s original character intact. “We wanted to build on the existing architectural character in a way that is sensitive, contextual and unique to the area,” she says.
According to Jardan directors Nick and Michael Garnham, “Our Sydney flagship store is our most ambitious venture yet, as we needed to harmoniously house a comprehensive mix of our collections and partnering brands in authentic and honest way while creating an atmosphere which complements Jardan’s signature understated style”.
In conceptualising the new three-level Jardan showroom, Foschia took inspiration from the colourful aesthetics of some of Australia’s most influential artistic families, including the Whiteley, Hall Best, Olsen and Ormandy families.
Over three levels, you’ll notice subtle transitions between whites, blues, greens, greys and blacks. The colour palette is based on the colour systems made famous by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier, who used colour to manipulate and gently enhance the emotions of people in buildings all over the world.
