With Open Arms

Citing his mentor, Romaldo Giurgola’s (architect of Canberra’s Parliament House) ethos of designing a building with open arms to welcome visitors, Luigi Rosselli has designed this triplex apartment building to draw people in and has in the process creates a series of serene oases in the middle of Sydney’s leafy eastern suburbs.

The concave façade details are the open arms in this building, which has Rosselli’s signature well-edited curves and connection the surround environment. With the local council planning restrictions as a starting point – single-story at street level and the building to follow the slope of the land – Rosselli devised a terraced sequence of three apartments that each have their own identity and, coupled with the exposed concrete and timber detail the architect is known for, the resulting homes are a lesson in style and simplicity.

The interior design of the building was overseen by Alwill Interiors and continues the confidently calm architecture. With a paired back materials palate, and with each apartment enjoying its own terrace, any of these apartments would be the perfect place to call home.
