Melbourne modern renaissance
B.E architecture have created and curated a home where the emphasis has been placed on the experience of the inhabitant as well as creating something new and unique. Perhaps best described by this short extract from the architects:
“St Vincents Place Residence is a new archetype developed through reinterpretation of classical references with a modern sensibility. The client put his belief in architecture, artists and artisans to create a nourishing environment that goes beyond surface treatments by inscribing contemplative experiences into the physical form”.
The home comprises of a significant heritage façade with a substantial new home built behind. This new building, which comprises most of the home, is not instantly recognizable as such. The design resolution has successfully bridged historical touchpoints and stylistic periods but extracting motifs and interpreting them in a contemporary but sensitive way. These details include: curved cornices, arched doors and custom steel fireplaces feel at ease within the Victorian frontage. The modern counterpart in the rear extension uses insitu concrete, terrazzo style stone floors, painted timber ceilings and bluestone walling to create a point of difference from the front. Rejecting stark minimalism, the classical details are exchanged for rich textures.
As carefully curated as the art collection, the interiors for the house are an eclectic mix covering diverse cultural references across many eras. A refined, casual aesthetic is created, incorporating unique vintage pieces. Surly one of Australia’s great interiors.
