Wide Open Land – Wyoming

As we hurtle towards the end of the year, my mind always turns to thoughts of escaping the city and heading out into the wide open land for a few weeks of rest and relaxation and this year if I could teleport myself anywhere it would be to this stunning contemporary mountain home designed by British firm McLean Quinlan and located near Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The narrative of this home was set by to two factors – its location in one of North America’s most scenic landscapes and the classic chalets of the European Alps, with both of these factors are expressed in the materials used. The use of stone and timber – honest, simple and strong – lift the house up from the ground while ensuring it still very much retains a connection to it. Together with these materials, glass plays a big role in contemporising the space and more importantly embracing the spectacular views the location enjoys.

The interior of the home carries through the narrative of the architecture and exemplifies craftmanship and longevity. Throughout, timber, specialist plasterwork and locally sourced stone give this home an identity that strikes the perfect balance between comfortable and breathtaking.

Now to work out how to teleport myself there!
