Adele Bates Hollywood style
Nestled in the heart of Melbourne’s Prahran market sits Q le Baker, an artisanal bakery with interiors as exciting as its products. Designed by Adele Bates, the corner positioning of the site is deliberately open to allow for a 360° immersive journey through the bakery.
From the welcoming façade through to its interior, the bakery has been cleverly composed to artistically showcase the baked goods. Soft surfaces of textured cement render are accentuated with bold, dark timber box-frame openings, drawing the eye to the theatre of the bakery, whilst dark marble bench tops bring focus to the products.
The lighting adds to the theatre in a subtle ode to Hollywood style with round globes that emulate a dressing room mirror illuminating the space. Elsewhere, the walls ripple in a sculpted form, imitating the soft forms of dough in a simple but effective nod to the space’s purpose.
Soft grey, textured tiles sit above the bench top front of house, accentuating the dark colour scheme, using black taps and dark stained timber above the display shelving. Striking yet simple, these hues perfectly balance the warm tones of the bread and pastries, enhancing the customer’s sensory experience.
