Australian Mexican connection

It’s been 12 years since the humble beginning of Guzman y Gomez with its first store in Newtown, Sydney. In 2015, GYG was named the fastest growing fast-food chain in Australia. In the beginning of 2018, we saw the opening of their 100th store located North of Sydney in Maitland, NSW, yes that’s right, I said 100!
Designed by MORRISco Design, “The GYG concept is somewhere between a fast-food takeaway and a sit down dining experience,” says Alexandra Morris.
The brief for this store was focused on providing an eye-catching shopfront solution within the monochromatic exterior mall food court area. Custom powder-coated steel and shopfront closures were designed to match the GYG brand colours. Soft oak timbers with warm lighting soften the counter and LCD menu-board bulkhead.
In keeping with the other stores MORRISco Design integrated a breeze block inspired screen, built-in table-top cactus gardens connecting the artwork sourced in Mexico by the client. “The dynamic Mexican artwork played a big role in determining finishes and colours that would complement it. Pink grouted tiles and our signature neon cactus was specified in pink to match” says Morris
Cost effective textured paint finishes were employed to create a warm, soft affect without blowing the budget. Terrazzo tiles, plants and custom metal detailing adds to the overall aesthetics.
