express yourself (large designer slabs)
As most of you will know, I’m a massive fan of innovative design and technology which is also the driving force behind Italian tile brand Florim. Their latest offering CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia embodies the dialogue between art, craftsmanship and technology. The brand that shapes ceramic matter in the service of creativity, allowing interior designers and architects to express themselves to their full potential. These large designer slabs renew the concept of architectural spaces indoor and in some cases outdoor, are now available in Australia and New Zealand!
In the “Archeologie” collection, designed by Franco Guerzonithe porcelain stoneware surfaces take on the consistency of a new space in which Franco Guerzoni transfers and deposits a few key traits from his personal artistic poetry, developing a range of modern coverings that have the appearance of a coloured surface destined to survive the tests of time and become a memory.
Cromatica designed by Formafantasma is available in six encoded colours and two complementary surface finishes – matt and glossy – the “Cromatica” collection brings out a sensitive and original reflection in the domination of pure colour. The large porcelain stoneware glazed sheets are fields where the chromatic quotient in pastel shades, softly mixed together and rich in variations of intensity, comes through in a multiplication of apparently infinite shades. In addition to being kept in its large size, the sheet can also be cut down to smaller sizes, making it an open and versatile collection.
The distinctive traits of the “Euridice” collection designed by Giorgio Griffa, stemming from the history of painting, of the gesture taught by the Paleolithics. The poetry of this series of elegant ceramics proposes a sublime use of porcelain stoneware which, assimilated to a rough canvas, defines a work that is at the same time partial and infinite.
Metamorfosi designed by Marco Casamonti, calibrates the desired grade of browning, the quantity and arrangement of the rust traces, stains and abrasions, the exceptional colours of the metals are brought to life thanks to the properties of ceramic, used to launch a collection of elegant and modern surface finishes. Representing the material state in which the perfect grade of metallic oxidation is reached, “Metamorfosi” achieves an aesthetic result that the author – appropriately – defines as the visual transfiguration of the “patina of time”.
Storie designed by Giorgia Zanellato & Daniele Bortotto, is created to cover indoor – and in some cases outdoor – surfaces, the large sheets that make up the “Storie” collection are ceramic fields where the skillful and organised mixture of pigments are manifested in astonishing colour shading effects with a visual expressiveness inspired by the slow and fascinating fading over time of plasters and masonry decorations in traditional Italian architecture. In the soft liquidity of their colours, these porcelain stoneware sheets redefine the figure of an elegant modernity in the ceramics area.
With the “Tesori” collection designed by Matteo Nunziati, porcelain stoneware surfaces are at the service of design, allowing a semantic slip that leads to perceiving the ceramic covering as a material surface – even large dimensions – needed to support graphic and calligraphic styles, as well as significant “signic” visions. Through the patterns on the “Tesori” surfaces, Italian ceramics evoke an exotic and oriental image, suggesting the idea of an exploratory journey that takes on the form of a valuable and fascinating cultural exchange.
The design of “Matrice”, designed by Barbara Brondi & Marco Rainò – BRH+, also drawing from suggestions that derive directly from modern Italian architecture and studying the particular harmony of the exposed scores in cement of some compositional solutions from that creative season, has led to the re-invention of a series of finishes that can be applied to porcelain stoneware material. This means that original combinations can be obtained that are always different from the various ceramics in the collection, in order to create decidedly intense dwelling environments with great personality.
