Namibia, a country in southwest Africa, is distinguished by the Namib Desert along its Atlantic Ocean coast. The country is home to diverse wildlife, including a significant cheetah population. Located less than an hour’s drive from Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, is safari resort Habitas Namibia which seems diconneted from civilization.
Nestled high on a hilltop surrounded by a wildlife reserve of 50,000 hectares, the retreat was conceived as a new kind of safari camp where guests can experience not just the wildlife and surrounding savanna but also connect with local people and get to know their culture. Sustainably designed as an environment of understated luxury and communal living where guests come together for the adventure, food, and conversation before retreating to their own private lodge, Habitas Namibia attempts to redefine safari as a curated selection of authentic experiences, deeper connections and leisurely finesse.
Designed to have a minimal impact on the environment, the guest lodges are made from stretch tent material and mesh, decorated with locally crafted objects and bespoke furniture. Swathed in earthy tones and natural textures, their austere aesthetic belies a trove of subtle luxuries such as king-sized beds, rain showers and wraparound private decks wherefrom guests can watch and listen to the elephants, giraffes, antelopes and birds that populate the reserve.
